Description

My application for :iconwarriors-brokenskies:!! I’m pumped!!

If any of the other members of the group see this and would like to fill in a relationship backstory with her (such as, becoming friends/enemies/etc. after the night of broken skies), just let me know in the comments!!

Also, I left the Age and Rank blank, because I want to talk to the RiverClan Medicat about being their apprentice.

Mottledust's Den [RC Medicine Cat]

Name\\ [Mottlekit] [Mottlepaw] Mottledust
Gender\\She-cat
Age\\
Breed\\ Domestic medium-hair
Clan\\ RiverClan
Rank\\ Medicine Cat
Traits\\

:bulletgreen: - positive\\:bulletyellow: - neutral\\:bulletred: - negative

Traits I need to add: Oblivious, Dramatic, Imaginative

:bulletgreen: Kind – This she-cat may not have a mean bone in her body. Okay, maybe one, but it is very well hidden and has yet to see the light of day. She is very likely to sing a cat’s praises at them and point out everything wonderful about them, if given the chance. For all her flaws, her kindness if her best attribute. She can be a bit vague with her compliments, but they are always sincere.  If she’s ever to retell you a story – probably a jumbled up one, knowing her – I doubt she would end it without saying something nice about each and every character. She still dislikes certain cats, but would not outwardly admit or act on it.

:bulletgreen: Knowledgeable – Mottledust has a lot buzzing around in her head. She is the sort of cat who wants to know everything about everything. It would be simple to think her head was full of moss with how dazed and out of it she is when seen pacing around, but it is often just that she is lost in some deep thought she can’t portray. She knows a lot about twoleg gadgets. (Though not really. She just thinks she does. She thinks an umbrella is for catching fish.) StarClan help any cat who finds a discarded twoleg object while with her. She will either assign it a made-up purpose for it or seek out its true purpose.

:bulletgreen: Curious – Her main driving factor is her curiosity. This is what has made her so knowledgeable – her never-ceasing quest to know all (wether relevant or totally irrelevant). It can push her over the line of her timidness in the end. Although curiosity was what caused her accident to happen with the twoleg object, her inquisitiveness has not wavered since the incident. Instead, it has ignited a fascination in their world and objects. She does not actively wander away to discover new things about twolegplace and would never approach a twoleg, but if she finds abandoned ‘artefacts’ or gets the chance to talk to a kittypet, it will capture her focus completely. She is reserved in her interest of these things with other clan cats.

:bulletyellow: Meticulous – Although generally disjointed from situations, when Mottledust is in her element, she achieves everything she can, perfectly down to the mousehair. She is very serious about her duties. However, her quest for perfectionism often slows her down and she has issues defending her decision to spend more achieving the optimum result.

:bulletyellow: Optimistic – Will always look on the brighter side of life. However, this is to an unbearably unrealistic extent. Although upbeat, she puts too much faith in things working out in the best possible way, which can cloud her judgement and prevent her from problem solving and coming to the most reliable conclusion.  Her tendency to see the best in all cats also may blind her to their true intentions. Situations she is not optimistic in are usually those that concern herself - she has irrational self doubt for such situations - or social situations. But she will never purposely share these misgivings with another cat. (Although, she would with Acornwhisker, but whoops, can't really do that now.)

:bulletyellow: Selfless – In the heat of the moment, she tends not to value herself and will go to many risky lengths to benefit another. Although this may be seen as noble and heroic, she usually takes on unnecessary dangers. Her selflessness also extends to forgoing food and herbs for others in need, especially during leafbare. Although in a clan environment putting the clan before yourself would be considered admirable, she would do the same for any cat, in any clan. Something that is rather problematic. So, she keeps it to herself.

:bulletred: Disorientated – Mottledust has the worst sense of directions. If any cat can get lost in their own territory, it’s her. There were a few close calls wandering on other clan’s territory in her apprentice days. And let’s not even talk about that time she ended up at Carrionplace and stunk like crowfood for a week. The intermingling of clans in the aftermath of the night of broken skies only served to further confuse her. Although the clans have now gone their own separate ways, she has a lot of problems respecting the borders. Due to the damage to her whiskers, she is also poor at navigating through the dark as well as clustered areas.

:bulletred: Vague – Ask and you shall receive possibly the vaguest answer possible. She’s always happy to share information, but she doesn’t wish to be wrong, so she tries to leave out as much information as possible to ensure she will be right. If not lacking in substance, she will include irrelevant information, go off topic, or get confused in her own answer. Conversations with her end up usually with both parties being horribly muddled.

:bulletred: Timid – Mottledust is rather shy and uncertain. It is not apparent around her clan mates, as she has lived with them all her life and they know her true up-beat personality. Around strange cats, those from other clans and at gatherings it’s unerringly obvious. Aside from the social aspect, she is cautious to act and to fight especially. Her timidness stems from a number of things – her uneasy start in clanlife, the knowledge that her personality is a little out there and her facial scars and injuries. The latter is less to do with the fact they disfigure her and more to do with the how she got them. She always fears that some new cat will bring them up and she’ll have to tell them the hazy recount of an accident as a kit rather than some heroic tale of battle as one would expect.

History\\

After Daisyheart gave birth to her first litter – Mottledust and her brother Acornwhisker - she was always very secretive about which cat exactly had fathered the kits. The medicine cat, the leader and the father himself were the only cats who knew for certain. Rumours were quick to fly in the clan; everything from rival-clan toms to kittypets were cast as the suspect father. This took quite a toll on Daisyheart, but she stayed strong for her kits.

The reality of the situation was a lot closer to the clan. Daisyheart had a tom who admired her greatly, but his affections were not returned. As she rejected him, his true nature bubbled to the surface. He quickly turned emotionally manipulative. What had the greatest effect of her was his threat that ‘nobody else would ever love her like he did, and if they did, they’d be on their way to Starclan quicker than he could unsheathe his claws.”

All this time, her eyes followed after another, although fearfully. He was to be the father of her kits. She decided to protect her love’s life, she would keep the secret, no matter how difficult it would be for her. She confided in the leader, but there were fears that “the tom wouldn’t back up his threats” and that she was overreacting. Luckily, the leader had no problem in keeping the father a secret regardless – just to be safe.

It was relatively obvious that a certain tom favoured the kits, but the abusive tom was under the impression he was actually their father, so no action was taken against him.

The kit’s father was sick of hearing gossip in the clan, but did not want to endanger the kits or himself. He lead them out of camp and off the territory to escape ridicule. Daisyheart was distraught – her kits and her love gone. She was willing to retrieve them herself, but the abusive tom went instead to retrieve the kits he so firmly believed were his.

Meanwhile, Mottlekit had wandered away from her father and brother, looking to investigate by the river. She wanted to swim as the older cats back in RiverClan had. Under the impression the river would lead her back to her mother; she entered the water but was quickly swept away. Her father spotted this and followed her. A blockage made by some strange, shiny twoleg object finally stopped Mottlekit from being swept away, but not without some serious injuries caused by the sharp, broken edges.

He knew after this, the best thing to do was to return the kits.

On the desperate dash back to RiverClan, he ran into the abusive tom. A fight followed. Both fueled by ‘paternal instinct’ it raged on fiercely. It looked to be in the abusive tom’s favour as he was strong and experienced, but he was defeated; his death ensuring the family unit’s safety.

The kits were returned to the clan. Their father –ashamed of his actions and his inability to care for his own kits– left the clan to travel as a rogue.

Mottlekit’s injuries were not life-threatening, but would take some time to heal, especially considering they had not been treated right away. They were deep and had caused some muscle damage. Her eye was swollen and infected and although her vision returned fully there is a slight browning in the whites of her eye where the damage occurred. The follicles of her whiskers were also severely damaged which has had quite an effect on her.  This set her apprenticeship back some time and affected her physical development, leaving her slightly slower and weaker than her full potential.

After these events, Mottledust grew up to lead a rather average life for a clan cat. She was eager to eat up all the knowledge the world could throw at her. Her ability to get lost was a major taunting point, but it didn’t really bother her. She has a fascination with two-leg objects and she dearly wants to know more about them. She was mentored as a warrior by a cat called Rockleap who she got a long with well, despite the two of them having very conflicting views of the world around them.

Things continued at this pace until the events leading up to the night of the broken skies. Mottledust lost both her mother in an earlier battle, followed by her brother in a later one. As an extra kick, she lost her mentor as well on the final night.
She fought through her mourning and has still not entirely come to grips with her loss. She doesn’t hold a grudge against any particular clan or cat, because she does not know who was responsible. She is processing her grief inwardly. This caused her to become even more scattered, and muddled during this time.

In the fires that followed the battle, her long fur caught in the flames while attempting to rescue another cat. She is still tender from her burn, but fur has grown to cover the view of it from the side. It is only noticeable if she is lying with her stomach visible.

She is having trouble reverting to a clan-loyal life, following the time of unity in which she feels as though she formed a lot of bonds with cats in other clans.
Her greatest struggle with this was the prospect of future battles. Of loss. Of killing those she formed bonds with. The life of a warrior didn't seem to fit her any longer.

Her sights were set on becoming a medicine cat. With the help of Amberpaw, she set out to collect as many herbs as she could. The she-cat left them at Bearcry's den, hoping she would approve and take her on as an apprentice. In the end, Mottledust wasn't quite sure what had worked, but she achieved her goal. She was only fresh out of her apprenticeship, so it was a strange transition to become an apprentice once more.

She has since taken over the position of medicine cat from Bearcry, although she feels uncertain that she was ready to step into the roll so quickly. She is doing her best and a lot better than she actually believes herself to be.

Roleplay Sample\\

A leaf carried by the wind flew through the entrance of the Medicine Cat’s Den and invaded Mottlekit’s nest. It twitched promisingly - as though it would soon fly off once more. She took the opportunity away from it and batted it away with her tail. The gesture was enough to bring back the memory of the game her brother had made of chasing leaves in the nursery. The thought bit at her like a flea; it emblazoned the fact that she was still technically a ‘kit’ while Acornpaw had already beaten her to apprenticeship. Though, the same trail of thought would have crept up on regardless seeing as her brother now stood a tail length in front of her with a fish dangling limply from his mouth.

Mottlekit’s nose twitched, causing a twinge of pain to accompany the delightful smell of fresh kill.

“My first catch!” Acornpaw announced proudly, his brown fur puffing up with pride. He flicked it over towards his sister. “Flecknose said I could give it to you, so eat up. All of it.

“Uh, well, it is a catch, that you won’t catch me eating, in this time,” Mottlekit announced matter-of-factly. She flicked it back with an attempted half-smile that her injuries made look like a badger’s snarl.

“You don’t have a choice. I have to feed the clan first!” The fish was passed back again. “Look, trust me you’ll understand when you have a mentor.” His face crumpled up immediately as the regret and panic overtook his amber eyes.

Before his apologies could work their way out, she interrupted brightly. “Don’t worry! I’ll understand soon! I’ll be an apprentice before you know it!”

His worry broke into a slight smile instead; relieved that his sister was still positive.

Mottlekit stood up gingerly, flicking him with her tail. “And you’ll look forward to following me into the warrior den! Because I’ll get there first, next time.”

Acornpaw nudged her with a lightness he would never have used had she not been injured. “Pfft, I’m not following you anywhere. We’ll end up half way to WindClan.”

“Then my first catch will be rabbit!”

“No kin of mine will be a prey stealer.” Acornpaw chuckled.

“Acornpaw!”

His smile was stolen by a sigh that would have otherwise been unfamiliar to cats newly apprenticed. “I better be going. Flecknose said he wanted to teach me some fighting moves!”

“Okay!!” She called after him watching her brother dart out of the den as quickly as the words had left his mouth. The bundle of chestnut fur chased after the voice of his mentor with a clumsiness that betrayed that he was newly out of the nursery. As an afterthought, she added “But you must tell me about it when you get back!”

He didn’t hear her.

Her gaze followed after him until she could see him no more.
She was left to her own thoughts and the heavy scent of the medicine den’s herbs once more.
She padded at the moss, trying to make it acceptably comfortable. Next time she saw him, she would have to mention that as an apprentice it was his duty to change it. She chuckled at that, only to be reminded by pain that followed that she wasn't supposed to be moving her mouth too much.
Mottlekit rested her head on her paws and settled down, back to catching her first prey in her own mind.

Hi! I was wondering if I could talk to you about a new kit I plan on bringing in being Medicine cat apprentice when she does become an apprentice, because she'll be blind! she's not born yet, but it's Moosekit, so I was just wondering if I could talk to you about it? ovo
